PEKES of Thessaly and the Creative Learning Technologies team of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Thessaly (THMMY) co-organized an event on innovation skills in the green economy. The event was addressed to vocational training students and teachers and 30 students of the 4th Evening Lyceum of Volos participated in it. It was held at the TIMMY computer lab at the intersection of Sekeri and Hayden streets in Volos on Thursday, November 24, 2022.
The event aimed to raise students’ awareness of environmentally responsible production practices across a wide range of sectors and develop innovation skills for re-engineering production processes with the application of green practices. Participants had the opportunity to collaborate in teams to design or redesign services and processes with the goal of improving their environmental footprint by applying design thinking, a deeply human-centered design method that contributes to better addressing needs through a process of empathy and ideation that helps to introduce solutions to difficult problems of the economy and society, as well as to present their ideas.
Participants used digital learning services that promote innovation in groups. The services were designed and developed by the Creative Learning Technologies team as part of the Design4Climate research project funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Commission and implemented from 2020 to 2022. The research project aims to develop innovative thinking in vocational training to promote green economy.. In addition to the University of Thessaly, educational organizations from Poland, Portugal, Bulgaria, and Sweden participate in the research project.
Scientific managers of the Design4Climate research project are the EDIP member of TIMMY Mr. Chariklia Tsalapata and Om. Prof. of the department, Mr. Ilias Houstis. The event was opened by the Coordinator of the Educational Project of PEKS Thessaly, Mr. Konstantinos Panagiotou.
