The University of Nicosia is proud to announce that Professor George M. Giaglis, Executive Director of its Institute for the Future (IFF), has been invited to join the Meta Reality Labs Policy Advisory Council. This council provides Meta with insights and guidance on the ethical and responsible development of the metaverse, addressing complex public policy questions as Meta continues to innovate in cutting-edge technology and hardware.
Established in 2021, the Meta Reality Labs Policy Advisory Council plays a crucial role in advising Reality Labs teams throughout product and policy development. The council comprises a diverse group of experts, including developers, professors, academics, and civil society advocates from around the world, who bring extensive knowledge in areas such as privacy, youth safety, and disability advocacy.
It is noteworthy that UNIC/IFF offers the world’s first Master’s Degree in Metaverse, an interdisciplinary programme delivered online. This cutting-edge programme is designed to prepare innovators, creators, developers, architects, social scientists, financial professionals, policymakers, and others for dynamic careers in metaverse design and management. As a key component of the University of Nicosia’s Open Metaverse Initiative (OMI), the MSc in Metaverse is dedicated to fostering metaverse adoption through open public systems and standards. Leveraging the university’s decade-long leadership in blockchain and digital currency education, OMI is committed to advancing the metaverse into the future.
This collaboration will enable IFF to contribute to the development of a more open and inclusive metaverse, aligning with both the council’s mission and the university’s research interests.
