University of Nicosia: Successful participation of students from the Department of Management of the University of Nicosia in the “Seeds for the Future” programme by Huawei

The participation of students from the University of Nicosia in the annual program of Huawei Technologies Cyprus, “Seeds for the Future,” which concluded in July 2023, was particularly successful, as one of the winning teams consists of students from the Department of Management at the School of Business Administration of the University of Nicosia.

Specifically, the team is composed of students S‘lindokuhle Kubeka (team leader, pursuing an MBA programme, Concentration Entrepreneurship and Digital Transformation), Maria Lobanova (student in the BBA programme, Concentration Entrepreneurship and Innovation), and Mariana Abdel Hak (student in the BSc Management Information Systems programme).

Welcoming the presentation ceremony of the programme’s results, Prof. Despo Ktoridou, the Chairperson of the Department of Management, stated that the implementation of Case Studies by Huawei in the course MGT-372, Innovation and Technology Management, was the best experience she could offer to the students: “The University of Nicosia is honored to collaborate with Huawei Cyprus and participate in Seeds for the Future, which aims at developing specialised, local ICT talent and bridging communication between countries and cultures. It is a great honor and joy for me that three students from the Department of Management took part in the Seeds for the Future competition,” Prof. Ktoridou noted.

This year’s “Seeds for the Future” lasted for 8 days and took place from the 19th to the 26th of June. The Cypriot university students had the opportunity to attend 4 hours of recorded learning, 14 hours of livestream classes, and the team project “Tech4Good.”

The mandatory recorded lessons were introductory for all students with an academic background in Information and Communication Technologies, including 5G, AI, Cloud Computing, and Digital Power. The students also had the opportunity to delve deeper into advanced courses.

Participants in the programme also have the chance to attend the Startup Sprint in China to gain real entrepreneurial experience. The winning teams will receive $100,000 for founding new businesses, and the student with the highest score will travel to the Talent Summit, with expenses covered by Huawei.

“Seeds for the Future” is Huawei’s largest Corporate Social Responsibility programme, with the highest investments that have been nurturing top talents and inspiring the next generation of leaders through technological innovation and cross-cultural exchange for over ten years. The online version has been available since 2020, and the first global Tech4Good competition started in 2021.

Until now, the programme has been implemented in 139 countries, reaching over 15,000 young students and gaining approval from more than 450 heads of states and high-ranking government officials worldwide since December 2022. In Cyprus, Seeds for the Future has been running for the last seven years, continuously attracting more and more young people and leaving a strong impact on the field of Information and Communication Technologies.
