A Highly Cited Researcher is an individual who has demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research
Professor Spyros Makridakis, Director of the University of Nicosia (UNIC) Institute for the Future (IFF) is among the most Highly Cited Researchers in the world, according to the list Highly Cited Researchers™.
Correspondingly, Professor Makridakis, who also Heads of UNIC’s the Makridakis Open Forecasting Center (MOFC) ranks 2nd most cited researcher in Cyprus, having demonstrated significant and broad influence in his field of research, including the organization and running of the renown M Competitions.
Since 2001, the Highly Cited Researchers™ list has identified global research scientists and social scientists who have demonstrated significant and broad influence in their field(s) of research. This year, 6,849 individual researchers from institutions in 67 countries and regions have been named Highly Cited Researchers.
Each researcher included in the list has authored multiple Highly Cited Papers™ which rank in the top 1% by citations for their field(s) and publication year in the Web of Science™ over the past decade. However, citation activity is not the sole selection indicator. A preliminary list based on citation activity is then refined using qualitative analysis and expert judgement.
David Pendlebury, Head of Research Analysis at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate said:
“The Highly Cited Researchers list identifies and celebrates exceptional individual researchers at the University of Nicosia whose significant and broad influence in their fields translates to impact in their research community and innovations that make the world healthier, more sustainable and more secure. Their contributions resonate far beyond their individual achievements, strengthening the foundation of excellence and innovation in research.”
