University of Limassol: UoL Joins EMPOWER Project to Inspire Girls in ICT Education

The University of Limassol is excited to announce its partnership in the EMPOWER project (“Enhancing Mentorship and Professional Opportunities for Women through Education and Role-modeling in ICT). Funded by the Erasmus+, this initiative aims to boost gender equality in ICT education. This three-year project, running from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2028, seeks to empower girls by breaking down stereotypes and creating inclusive opportunities in the field of technology.

Led locally by the Research Centre, the University of Limassol will collaborate with a network of prestigious institutions and organisations across Europe. Together, these partners bring expertise from various fields to ensure the project achieves its goals. The partnership includes:

The EMPOWER project focuses on equipping educators with tools and training to foster gender diversity in classrooms, organizing role model presentations by successful women in ICT, and piloting inclusive teaching strategies in schools. Its ultimate aim is to create a scalable, gender-sensitive teaching framework that inspires girls to pursue ICT studies and careers.

Key objectives of the project include:

  • Supporting teachers to adopt inclusive practices in ICT education.
  • Inspiring young girls with role models who reflect the possibilities of ICT careers.
  • Breaking down cultural and institutional barriers that limit gender equality.
  • Developing policies to scale up successful practices across Europe.

The project also promotes EU values of equality, inclusion, and non-discrimination, aiming to create lasting change in education and workforce diversity.
