The CIIM Bioeconomia Centre of the University of Limassol (UoL) has been recording, studying and analysing, for the last 5 years, the assessment of municipalities ( 12 studies ) and communities ( 43 studies ), in relation to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the European Protocol on Sustainable Municipalities and Communities.
Utilizing all the findings, relevant indicators and information, the University of Limassol, has created the Sustainable Local Government Network, named Polis Lab, in order to support the members of the Network – Municipalities, Communities, Local Authorities and the wider Civil Society – to collaborate and respond to the current challenges in the context of green transition and digital transformation.
The reform of Local Government, the modern socio-economic context influenced by globalisation, technological developments and the growth of intercultural societies due to the large migratory flow, place the technocratic reorganisation of Local Government – with the continuous updating of knowledge, skills and competences of human resources and the development of relations and joint actions with Civil Society – at the heart of any reform effort.
Adaptation to the mandatory rules of international organizations, resilience to Climate Change, continuous training, with innovative programmes in terms of subject matter, with new smart and flexible forms and techniques of learning, with advisory and guidance actions, are called upon to respond to the need for reform, reorganization, flexibility and mobility of the Local Government Administrative Mechanism.
The Head of the CIIM Bioeconomia Centre of the University of Limassol (UoL), Dimitris Tsiropoulos invites all members of Municipalities, Communities and Local Government Organizations to get to know and learn more about the Sustainable Local Government Network, Polis Lab in the presentations that will take place:
