University of Cyprus: Transition to Green Energy: strengthening Cyprus’ role through “TETHYS”

The University of Cyprus (UCY) is leading an ambitious Horizon Europe project, entitled “Twinning for Excellence in Floating Wind Turbines and Hydrogen Systems” (TETHYS), which brings together leading expertise from Italy, Denmark and Greece. The initiative aims to strengthen research and innovation capacity in wind energy systems from floating wind turbines, as well as in the production and use of (green) hydrogen.

The project focuses on addressing critical gaps and challenges in the integration of marine wind turbine energy with hydrogen (FOW-H2) production and its use in shipping and port activities, with the aim of moving towards zero emissions. Through intensive collaboration, training and networking, TETHYS will foster research excellence based on existing and new partnerships with leading institutions and industrial actors at national and international level. Our goal is to create and promote innovative developments in FOW-H2 systems, to strengthen Cyprus’ role in the green energy transition and to create a strong research and development ecosystem.

Accordingly, TETHYS welcomes and encourages the active participation of a wide range of stakeholders, including industry professionals, the public sector, the country’s research institutions, citizens and other relevant stakeholders. Targeted dissemination activities and participation opportunities will be carried out throughout the project, with announcements preceding the project.
