University of Cyprus: Professor Despo Fatta-Kassinou honoured with the Prince Sultan Water Specialist Event Participation Grant for her keynote speech at EMEC 2025

The Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water (PSIPW) has approved the selection of Professor Despo Fatta-Kassinou (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering) for the Prince Sultan Water Specialist Event Participation Grant, in recognition of her participation as a keynote speaker at EMEC 2025 (25th European Meeting on Environmental Chemistry, Chania, Crete, Greece).

This marks the second distinction Professor Fatta-Kassinou has received from this programme, highlighting her sustained and internationally recognised leadership in water research.

The programme, managed by the PSIPW, supports organisers of scientific events in inviting leading experts to deliver keynote speeches. Honourees are nominated by the hosting body and approved by PSIPW based on criteria that include the innovative nature of their research work.

Professor Fatta-Kassinou, a Chemical Engineer at the University of Cyprus, is internationally recognised for her pioneering research focusing on micropollutants and antimicrobial resistance factors in urban wastewater and aquatic systems. Her work combines the development of analytical tools with the design and application of advanced removal technologies.

The programme was established in honour of HRH Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, founder of the PSIPW. It extends the organisation’s vision of promoting water-related research by supporting and recognising outstanding scientists. Through the selection and sponsorship of distinguished keynote speakers, the programme facilitates their participation in high-impact scientific meetings.
