The Academia Europaea
Founded in 1988, Academia Europaea is an international non-governmental organisation that brings together distinguished scientists from all scientific disciplines, including Nobel Prize winners. New members are elected on the sole criterion of scientific excellence, following a rigorous evaluation and nomination by two existing members. The mission of the Academy is to strengthen European scientific research, to provide evidence-based scientific input to policy makers and international organisations, and to promote interdisciplinary cooperation. The official induction ceremony for the new 2025 members will take place in the autumn, at the Academy’s annual plenary session.
It is noteworthy that in 2024, two more academics from the University of Cyprus were elected to Academia Europaea: Professor Leontios Kostrikis and Professor Despo Fatta-Kassinou. Its members also include Nobel Prize winner Sir Christopher Pissarides and Professor Marios Polycarpou.
