The University of Cyprus organised on September 20-21, 2023 the 3rd technical meeting of C-IZEBs “Cooperative Intelligent education & electromobility-Zero Energy Buildings” which is implemented through the European Territorial Cooperation programme, Interreg V-A Greece-Cyprus 2014-2020 /expert objective 2.1 “Increasing energy savings in public buildings”. For the implementation of the project there is cooperation among, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth of Cyprus (coordinator), the University of Cyprus, the Regional Development Fund of Crete, and the Municipality of Heraklion.
The main goal of the project is to create models of intelligent school buildings with almost zero energy consumption that will successfully address the issue of climate change and adaptation to the new conditions of thermal comfort and air quality in school rooms. The objectives of the project are, among other things, the strengthening of sustainable mobility and the development of ecological awareness among students, teachers and users of the buildings.
As part of the project, actions are being carried out for the pilot energy upgrading of two school buildings, the High School of Archbishop Makarios III in Platis Aglantzias in Cyprus and the High School & High School of Agios Myrons in Heraklion, Crete. In addition to passive and active energy upgrading measures, charging stations for electric vehicles and bicycles are installed in the buildings. In addition, actions are carried out for the participative education of building users on issues of energy management in buildings and the creation of environmental and energy awareness, as well as actions to disseminate the results of the project.
