The Centre for Entrepreneurial Development, Alliance and Research (CEDAR) organised with great success, in the framework of Erasmus+ Key Action 154 – “Youth Participation Activities in the Youth Sector” project entitled: “Consultation between young people and policymakers”, the 7th of a series of 14 Open Dialogues with Youth on Policy and Public Engagement issues, both at national and European level.
This Open Dialogue was led by the EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, Stella Kyriakides. Mrs Kyriakides had the opportunity to discuss with the young people her personal experience of her involvement in the public sphere as a European Commissioner and previously as a Member of Parliament. She also spoke about EU policies on health and food safety, the value of European solidarity and the role that young people can play in this regard. The young people, under the guidance of Ms Kyriakides and members of the CEDAR Research Centre, had the opportunity to discuss their concerns and ask targeted questions on the impact that their involvement in civic, political and democratic life in the EU could have on solving vital issues of concern to them such as unemployment, equality and the right of access to public health services. The young people, coming from the districts of Larnaca, Famagusta and Limassol, responded enthusiastically to Mrs Kyriakides’s invitation to seize the opportunity to address the above issues of concern to the youth of Cyprus.
The action took place at the premises of UCLan Cyprus University on Friday, 1 March, at 10am.
