The University of Cyprus actively participates since November 2024 in the European research project ERUDiTE, in the framework of the Erasmus+ programme (Key Action 2), for a duration of 30 months. The aim of the project is to raise awareness and educate medical students and related disciplines in the field of empathy through innovative digital tools and educational material.
ERUDiTE focuses on understanding the dimensions of empathy, the factors that influence it, the consequences of its absence, and ways to enhance it. Among the main objectives are:
- The development of tools for digital self-assessment of empathy.
- The formulation of policy recommendations for the integration of empathy into academic culture.
- The dissemination of the results to academic and professional health care institutions.
Main project activities
- Compilation of an empathy manual based on the experience of the partners.
- Development of a digital self-assessment platform, accessible to students.
- Development of a five-day curriculum for students of medicine and related sciences.
- Design of a toolkit of recommendations for decision makers in academia.
- Dissemination and awareness-raising activities.
The Software Engineering and Internet Technologies Laboratory (SEIT) of the Department of Informatics of the University of Cyprus participates as a technology partner in the project. ERUDiTE is implemented with the collaboration of partners from four countries.
The total funding of the project amounts to €250,000, of which €55,706 is allocated to the University of Cyprus. The scientific leader of the project on behalf of the University of Cyprus is Professor George A. Papadopoulos, head of the SEIT laboratory.
The involvement of the University of Cyprus in the ERUDiTE project enhances its contribution to the promotion of the psychosocial dimension of medical education and opens new horizons for international collaborations in the field of digital education and empathy.
