Full Member of the most important professional network in Cyprus for the enhancement of Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility
The University of Cyprus participated in the work and decisions of the 8th Annual General Assembly of the Cyprus Network for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility (CSR Cyprus), which took place on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, in Larnaca, as a full member with voting rights.
In order to strengthen its social contribution and its contribution to the development of actions with a positive impact on society and the promotion of sustainable development, the University of Cyprus participates as a full member of the Cyprus Network for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility (CSR Cyprus) from 2023.
The CSR Cyprus Network, which has 61 members (organisations and businesses), was established in 2016 and is the National Business Network for the promotion, awareness and cultivation of a culture of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability in Cyprus. Since April 2017, it is the National Partner of the leading European business network CSR Europe and Member of the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB). Its main objective is the promotion, development and implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability (CSR), the cooperation and exchange of knowledge and experience among its members and the promotion of CSR for the balanced achievement of sustainable development. The OEB in cooperation with its member association, the Cyprus Network for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility (CSR Cyprus), promote actions and trainings for organisations and businesses to adopt best practises applied by more advanced countries in terms of ESG criteria (the triple bottom line of Environment, Social and Governance). Corporate Social Responsibility is directly linked to the ESG criteria.
Through its participation as a full member of CSR Cyprus, the University of Cyprus will have the opportunity, among other things, to promote and communicate its actions related to CSR, to participate and/or co-organise joint actions with other organisations and companies-members of the Network and to participate in the public dialogue with the State on CSR issues.
The University of Cyprus was represented at the General Assembly of CSR Cyprus by Ms Fotini Panagi, Public Relations Officer, Head of the CSR Office of the University.
The University of Cyprus, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), demonstrates that it is an organisation that cares, among other things, about wider social issues such as diversity, inclusion, working conditions, the environment and sustainable practises. The University of Cyprus is committed to social responsibility and strives to make a positive difference to both society and the environment through teaching, knowledge, research, and innovation. Corporate Social Responsibility is one of the strategic objectives of the University of Cyprus.
The General Assembly was welcomed on behalf of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Dr. Maria Panayiotou, by the Director of the Minister’s Office, Mr. Theodolos Makriyannis and the Director General of the CU, Mr. Michael Antoniou. The Chairman of the Board of Directors of CSR Cyprus, Dr. Marinos Voukis, took stock of the Network’s activities for the period July 2023-June 2024, analysing the three objectives of the two-year term of the Board, which are: enhancing the value received by CSR Cyprus Members; Synergies and partnerships with higher educational institutions as well as public bodies; Strengthening the extroversion and brand of the Association. In addition to the plethora of trainings and the enhanced institutional role played by the Network, Dr. Voukis focused on the promotional activities implemented through the Association’s upgraded digital presence and the creation of personalised videos for each member organisation.
The event concluded with a presentation of the Authority of Co-operative societies project “Corporate Sustainability Supporting Framework” by Mr. Marinos Aniftos, Project Coordinator.
