The National Technical University of Athens: Τhe Board meeting of the European Universities Association CESAER at NTUA, 19-20 June 2023

The National Technical University of Athens hosted the annual CESAER Board Events, including the Presidents Meeting and a Task Force Workshop, 19-20 June 2023.

CESAER acts as the strong voice of Universities of Science and Technology in Europe, uniting 58 leading Engineering Universities from 28 countries in Europe and beyond. Its members educate over one million students and have been awarded over 5 billion Euros worth of European research funding. CESAER is an acknowledged stakeholder association for European Research Area, European Education Area and European Strategy for Universities. It serves as a trusted and proactive advocate defending the interests of Universities of Science and Technology at European level, as well as a constructive partner sharing and spreading intelligence, knowledge and best practices in research, education innovation and leadership.

CESAER members of the Board that participated in the Board Events included CESAER President Rik Van de Walle, Rector of Ghent University, Directors of the Board, such as Anna Andrea Steiger, Vice Rector of the Technical University Wien, Mikael Östling, Deputy President of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Toril Nagelhus Hernes, Pro-Rector of NTNU Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Guillermo Cisneros Pérez, Rector of UPM University Polytechnic of Madrid, Mihnea Costoiu, Rector of the University Polytechnic of Bucharest, Jennifer Herek, Dean of University of Twente, and Secretary General, Mattias Björnmalm.

NTUA has been a founding member of CESAER, and had a constructive meeting with CESAER delegation, where the structure, main goals and activities of CESAER were discussed within the issues of sustainability, openness of science and technology, innovation, learning and teaching, benchmark, human resources, sustainable funding. NTUA Rector, Andreas Boudouvis, and the Vice Rectors, Evangelos Sapountzakis, Ioannis Chatjigeorgiou and Drossos Gintides presented the educational and research overview of the University, including outreach and technology transfer activities. Additional issues discussed were research funding utilization schemes, the European Open Science Cloud, industrial PhDs, innovation and entrepreneurship, and European Universities, such as the EULiST Alliance where NTUA is a founding member.
