The 7th International Conference on Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency (RESEE2023), held in Cyprus from October 12-14, 2023, witnessed a momentous occasion as the PROTEAS Solar Research Facility hosted the esteemed Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change, and Energy of the Republic of Seychelles, Flavien Joubert, alongside representatives from renowned organizations such as the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Imperial College London, Stimson Center on the Transforming Conflict and Governance Program, and the Cypriot Ministry of Energy Commerce and Industry. Participants from diverse sectors, including research, academia, and industry, converged at this global event.
The visit provided a unique opportunity to showcase CyI’s cutting-edge PROTEAS Solar Research Facility and present the department’s groundbreaking work on Renewable Energy Technologies, Energy Storage, and Renewable-powered Desalination. Engaging discussions took place between the CyI Energy team and participants, fostering knowledge-sharing and idea exchange. Emphasis was placed on the pivotal role of energy storage for future systems, the hybridization of various renewable energy sources using thermal energy storage as a central hub, and prospects for collaborations in research proposals, researcher mobility, and joint master’s thesis supervision.
The entire CyI community expresses heartfelt gratitude to the RESEE Conference organizers and participants for selecting PROTEAS as a demonstration site, showcasing Cyprus’s expertise in researching, developing, and testing technologies related to concentrated solar power (CSP) and solar seawater desalination. Connecting with this dynamic and forward-thinking assembly of stakeholders was an honor. Anticipating future collaborations, we are eager to collectively pursue sustainable solutions.
