The city of Limassol welcomed one of the largest scientific conferences in Cyprus: the 28th Conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE 2023). It is the world’s largest conference in environmental economics, and this year it was co-organised by The Cyprus Institute, the Cyprus University of Technology and the Economics Department of the University of Cyprus. It was held on 27-30 June 2023 at the Cyprus University of Technology and the Limassol Carob Mill. CyI Professor Theodoros Zachariadis chaired the Local Organizing Committee and co-chaired the International Program Committee.
The conference hosted over 700 participants and included over 500 presentations in about 150 sessions. Apart from academic presentations, the conference included 16 special sessions dedicated to environmental and economic policy issues. A substantial part of the Conference was broadcasted in hybrid format to registered online participants.
The conference was under the auspices of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts and was financially supported by the European Commission’s Representation in Cyprus and the Municipality of Limassol. On behalf of the government of Cyprus, Deputy Minister to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Ms. Irene Piki, welcomed the participants. On behalf of the conference supporters, Deputy Head of the European Commission’s Representation in Cyprus, Mr. Nikolaos Isaris, and the Mayor of Limassol, Mr. Nicos Nicolaides, held welcome speeches.
The conference included keynote talks by Prof. Carolyn Fischer (World Bank), Prof. Phoebe Koundouri (EAERE President, Athens University of Economics and business and Technical University of Denmark), Prof. Madhu Khanna (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) and Prof. David Zilberman (University of California, Berkeley).
The keynote talks will soon be freely available on the Association’s YouTube channel.
