The Cyprus Institute (CyI): Presentation of CyI Strategic Planning 2023-2026 to the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Mr. Philippos Hadjizacharias

On Monday, 19th of June 2023, the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Mr. Philippos Hadjizacharias, along with the Permanent Secretary of its Ministry, Dr Stelios Himonas, as well as with some representatives from the Ministry of Finance and Defence, the Auditor General’s Office, and the Department of Forests, attended CyI’s presentation on CyI’s Strategic Planning for 2023-2026.

The meeting was aiming to give the opportunity to CyI President, Prof. Stavros Malas and CyI Directors and Senior Management to present the Strategic Planning for 2023-2026, and discuss future goals, capabilities and needs with the respective collaborators.

During the meeting, CyI’s Senior Management presented The Cyprus institute’s research and educational activities and vision. CyI President, Prof. Stavros Malas, highlighted the gap between research and industry, thus the importance of CyI’s role in society, while CyI Vice President of Operations, Dr Michalis Yiangou, Head of HPC Facility, Dr George Tsouloupas, Head of PROTEAS Facility, Dr Marios C. Georgiou, CARE-C Director, Prof. Jean Sciare, and CyI Assoc. Prof., Director of APAC Labs, Nikolas Bakirtzis, presented about the capabilities, mission and needs of each CyI facility.

The delegation was given a guided tour of selected CyI facilities including: the Linear Fresnel Collector (LFC) Facility, the High Performance Computing Facility (HPC), the Andreas Pittas Art Characterisation Laboratory (APAC), and the Unmanned Systems Research Laboratory (USRL).

Finally, a closed session of discussions took place between the Deputy Minister, the representatives of government’s departments and Ministries and CyI’s Senior Management.

The delegation included the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Mr. Philippos Hadjizacharias, along with the Permanent Secretary of its Ministry, Dr Stelios Himonas, the Economic Officer of the Ministry of Finance, representing the Minister of Finance, Mr. Makis Keravnos, Mrs. Maria Michael, Brigadier General, representing the Minister of Defence, Mr. Michalis Giorgallas, Mr. Charis Georgiou, MoD Research and Innovation Department, Mr. Antonis Antoniou, Audit Officers, representing the Auditor General, Dr Odysseas Michaelides, Mrs. Eleni Pavlidou and Mrs. Despina Kousiappa, and representative from the Department of Forests.
