The new book entitled “Responsibility, privileged irresponsibility and response-ability: Higher Education, Coloniality and Ecological Damage” is the latest publication resulting from the collaboration of Michalinos Zembylas, Professor of Educational Theory and Curriculum Studies, Academic Coordinator of the Postgraduate programme “Educational Studies” of the Open University of Cyprus, and Professor Vivienne Bozalek (Centre for Higher Education, Research, Teaching and Learning, Rhodes University). The book focused on three concepts, which have been foundational to their work over a number of years: responsibility, privileged irresponsibility and response-ability. The authors use the overlapping approaches of political care ethics and feminist posthumanism as a lens to focus on the notions of those concepts within the context of higher education, and as it pertains to global issues, such as colonialism/decolonisation, pandemics and the climate crisis.
Published by Palgrave Macmillan (Pivot Series), the book is an excellent reference for academics, researchers and students in the field of Higher Education, as well as to those in several other fields, such as Ecology, Gender Studies, Sociology, Philosophy, and Political Sciences.
