The Nicosia Municipality hosted in Nicosia on March 15 – 17, 2023, the third meeting of the European project HUB-IN – Hubs of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the Transformation of Historic Urban Areas.
The meeting took place at the ‘Information and Training Centre for Enhancing Employment and Entrepreneurship’ – KEEAED of the Municipal Multipurpose Centre of Nicosia.
The event was welcomed by Mayor of Nicosia Constantinos Yiorkadjis, Isabella Tymviou, councillor, Municipality of Nicosia and Myria Pilakouta, Municipal Secretary. The project on behalf of Nicosia Municipality is coordinated by the RISE CoE Project Coordinator, European Affairs Officer Charis Theoharous.
More than 40 people participated in the meeting, representing the 18 member organisations in the consortium. The Nicosia Municipality participates in the project together with the Cyprus Energy Office, Lisbon, Genoa, Belfast, Grand Angouleme, Utrecht, the Heritage Europe network, the Future Cities Catapult, the Energy Cities network, the NOVA Universities of Lisbon and the University of Utrecht, the Energy Offices of Lisbon and Genoa, etc.
The partners in the project had the opportunity to exchange ideas, discuss their action plans, plan the next stages of project implementation and visit the historical center of Nicosia.
The HUB-In project aspires to form a network of hubs of innovation and entrepreneurship (HUBS) in the eight partner cities of the project, aiming to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in Historic Urban Areas while preserving the unique identity of historic areas in terms of in their natural, cultural and social values. The actions are fully aligned with the international agendas for cultural sustainable development (UNESCO) and the strategy for cultural heritage (Council of Europe).
The project is part of and contributes to the wider objectives of the Municipality for the development and promotion of Nicosia as a hub for entrepreneurship and innovation.
The project is funded by the EU Funding Framework for Research and Innovation, Horizon 2020.

Δήμος Λευκωσίας: Με μεγάλη επιτυχία ολοκληρώθηκε η συνάντηση του έργου Ηubs of Innovation στη Λευκωσία
Ο Δήμος Λευκωσίας φιλοξένησε στη Λευκωσία στις 15 – 17 Μαρτίου 2023, την τρίτη συνάντηση του ευρωπαϊκού έργου HUB-IN – Hubs of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the Transformation of Historic Urban Areas.
Η συνάντηση έλαβε χώρα στο Κέντρο Ενημέρωσης και Επιμόρφωσης για την Απασχόληση και την επιχειρηματική δράση -ΚΕΑΕΕΔ του Πολυδύναμου Δημοτικού Κέντρου Λευκωσίας.
Την εκδήλωση χαιρέτισαν ο Δήμαρχος Λευκωσίας Κωνσταντίνος Γιωρκάτζης, η Δημοτική Σύμβουλος Ισαβέλλα Τύμβιου και η Δημοτική Γραμματέας Μύρια Πηλακούτα. Το έργο εκ μέρους του Δήμου Λευκωσίας συντονίζει η Συντονίστρια Έργου RISE, Λειτουργός Ευρωπαϊκών Υποθέσεων Χάρις Θεοχάρους.
Στη συνάντηση συμμετείχαν πέραν των 40 ατόμων, εκπροσωπώντας τους 18 οργανισμούς- μέλη στην κοινοπραξία. Ο Δήμος Λευκωσίας συμμετέχει στο έργο μαζί με τo Ενεργειακό Γραφείο Κύπρου, τη Λισαβώνα, τη Γένοβα, το Μπέλφαστ, το Grand Angouleme, την Ουτρέχτη, το δίκτυο Heritage Europe, το Future Cities Catapult, το δίκτυο Energy Cities, τα Πανεπιστήμια NOVA της Λισαβώνας και το Πανεπιστήμιο της Ουτρέχτης, τα Ενεργειακά Γραφεία της Λισαβώνας και της Γένοβας κ.α.
Οι εταίροι στο έργο είχαν την ευκαιρία να ανταλλάξουν ιδέες, να συζητήσουν τα σχέδια δράσης τους, να προγραμματίσουν τα επόμενα στάδια εφαρμογής του έργου και να επισκεφτούν το ιστορικό κέντρο της Λευκωσίας.
Το έργο HUB-In φιλοδοξεί να σχηματίσει ένα δίκτυο διασυνδεδεμένων κόμβων καινοτομίας και επιχειρηματικότητας (HUBS) στις οκτώ πόλεις που είναι εταίροι στο έργο, στοχεύοντας στην προώθηση της καινοτομίας και της επιχειρηματικότητας σε Ιστορικές Αστικές Περιοχές, διατηρώντας παράλληλα τη μοναδική ταυτότητα των ιστορικών περιοχών όσον αφορά στις φυσικές, πολιτιστικές και κοινωνικές τους αξίες. Οι δράσεις είναι πλήρως ευθυγραμμισμένες με τις διεθνείς ατζέντες για την πολιτιστική αειφόρο ανάπτυξη (UNESCO) και τη στρατηγική για την πολιτιστική κληρονομιά (του Συμβουλίου της Ευρώπης).
Το έργο εντάσσεται και συμβάλλει στους ευρύτερους στόχους του Δήμου για ανάπτυξη και προβολή της Λευκωσίας ως κόμβο επιχειρηματικότητας και καινοτομίας.
Το έργο χρηματοδοτείται από το Χρηματοδοτικό πλαίσιο της ΕΕ για την Έρευνα και την Καινοτομίας, «Ορίζοντας 2020».
