Nicosia Municipality Joins prestigious EIT Urban Mobility Raptor programme to enhance urban mobility and waste management

The Municipality of Nicosia is proud to announce its participation in the 2025 City Raptor Competition, funded by EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union.

Rapid Applications for Transport (RAPTOR) is a competition that swiftly creates and tests solutions to niche urban mobility challenges for businesses and cities across Europe. Startups and SMEs compete to provide the most innovative, feasible, and impactful solutions.

Nicosia is honoured to join this prestigious programme alongside leading European cities, including Aarhus, Belgrade, Dublin, Gothenburg, Greater Manchester, Manheim, Nantes, Podgorica, Poznan, Taurage, Thessaloniki, Trondhem, and Utrecht.

This significant milestone aligns closely with the Mayor’s strategic vision for a green Nicosia, focusing on two key priorities within the city’s sustainability pillar: sustainable urban mobility and the optimisation of waste management systems. The Raptor competition provides a unique platform to address these pressing challenges by fostering collaboration between the public sector, local innovators, and the broader European innovation ecosystem.

Participation in the Raptor programme was made possible with the support of the EIT Community Hub Cyprus, which facilitated Nicosia’s involvement in this groundbreaking initiative.

The Municipality of Nicosia looks forward to collaborating with European and local stakeholders to co-create impactful, scalable solutions that contribute to the city’s sustainable development goals. This endeavour not only reflects Nicosia’s commitment to becoming a leader in urban innovation but also underscores its dedication to improving the quality of life for its citizens.
