Neapolis University Pafos: 3rd Partner Meeting of the European Interreg Euro-MED Project “RECinMED” in Smolyan, Bulgaria

The 3rd face-to-face partner meeting of the European project “RECinMED: A multitude of inclusive Renewable Energy Communities in the Mediterranean Region” was successfully held on May 27–28, 2025, at the Municipal Hall of Smolyan, Bulgaria. Neapolis University Pafos was represented by Dr Natia Anastasi, Lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, and Dr Evanthia Dova, Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture, Land and Environmental Sciences.

The project, implemented under the Interreg Euro-MED programme, brings together partners from a diverse network of institutions: School Center Velenje (SI), ENERGIES 2050 (FR), AREANATejo (PT), NGO ASSO and the University of Bologna (IT), Argonauta and PI RERA S.D. (HR), as well as the municipalities of Granada (ES), Smolyan (BG), and Derventa (BA). The Neapolis University Pafos team also includes Associate Professors Dr Ioannis A. Pissourios and Dr Georgios D. Pavlidis from the Schools of Architecture and Law, respectively.

RECinMED aims to promote the development and operation of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) through innovative and inclusive practices across the Mediterranean. The project’s approach is rooted in collaborative networks and transnational coordination with related initiatives. Partners are divided into three Working Groups focusing on different geographic contexts: urban areas, rural regions, and islands. Within this framework, the project evaluates existing knowledge and practices to pilot and enhance previously approved solutions, using tools and methodologies developed in past EU-funded projects.

The meeting in Smolyan focused on reviewing project deliverables, with special emphasis on the ongoing design of pilot actions in Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria, and Croatia.
