The European University Cyprus (EUC) actively participated in the inaugural conference of the SUNRISE Alliance of European Universities (Smaller Strategic Universities Network for Regional Innovative and Sustainable Evolution), which took place on 14 and 15 January 2025 at the Ilmenau University of Technology, Germany. The EUC delegation, consisting of 10 people, included members of the Rectorate, academic and administrative staff.
The first day of the conference (January 14) included important speeches and discussions that highlighted the importance of cooperation between small strategic universities in promoting innovation and sustainable development in their regions.
The Rector of the EUC, Prof. Andreas Efstathiou, presented in his speech the role that SUNRISE can play in education, highlighting the commitment of EUC to promoting innovation through education. The Opening Ceremony was enriched by the presence of the Minister of Education, Science and Culture of Thuringia, Mr. Christian Tischner, who addressed the participants.
The second day of the conference (January 15) was dedicated to discussions on the work packages of the project, giving the participants the opportunity to delve deeper into the goals and strategies of the SUNRISE alliance.
During the event, various activities were also carried out, such as:
- Visit to laboratories and research centers of the University of Ilmenau, with an emphasis on cutting-edge technologies and international cooperation opportunities.
- Participation in the central discussion on the role of the SUNRISE alliance in strengthening local communities.
EUC is committed to continuing to contribute to the development of initiatives that strengthen cooperation between universities and promote sustainability and innovation.
