European University Cyprus: Launch of project READI to enhance patient representativeness and inclusion in clinical research

The School of Medicine of European University Cyprus proudly announces the launch of the pioneering project IHI READI (Innovative Health Initiative, Research in Europe and Diversity Inclusion) aimed to promote a comprehensively inclusive ecosystem for clinical studies.

Underserved and underrepresented populations in Europe, including ethnic minorities, older people and socioeconomically disadvantaged groups, are often excluded from clinical studies. This creates gaps in our understanding and limits the generalisability of clinical research results, as well as access to innovative health technologies, precisely to those most in need. The READI project aims to address barriers to participation of these groups, increasing their representation and placing them at the centre of the clinical research ecosystem across Europe.

The READI project brings together a multidisciplinary consortium of 73 organisations from 18 different countries, it receives funding from the Horizon Europe Innovative Health Initiative and will have a budget of €66.8 million over 6 years. European University Cyprus will receive €1.2 million for its contribution to the project; this will be focused on enhancing understanding of underserved and underrepresented populations and the barriers to their participation, as well as the creation and pilot of an innovative and inclusive clinical research network in Cyprus.
