The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) participated and was awarded, for the 7th year, in the Green Public Procurement Competition (CY GPP AWARDS), where it managed to obtain a prize and an honorable mention as well as a certificate of the European Ecological Management and Ecological Audit System (EMAS) – Environmental Management and Audit Scheme). The competition is organized by the Environment Department in collaboration with the Cyprus Energy Office. 

Specifically, CUT received, together with EAC, the 3rd prize for General Green Contracts Policy and an honorable mention for including environmental specifications in the supply of air conditioners.

The University was also awarded the EMAS certificate for the Rector’s building and for the buildings of Administrative Services and two academic Departments, namely the Department of Agricultural Sciences, Biotechnology and Food Science and the Department of Chemical Engineering.

This award is a practical recognition of the collective and methodical effort made at the University and a reward for the good practices applied in the issues of sustainability, circular economy and awareness.

The Green Public Contracts Awards were presented by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Prof. Costas Kadis in the context of a special ceremony held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, in the presence of the Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus, Mr. Constantinos Herodotou.

The awards were received on behalf of the University by the Coordinator of the University’s Environmental Policy Officer, Mr. Andreas Dionysiou.

The Cyprus Green Public Procurement Awards, CY GPP AWARDS, is an institution that started in 2014 and has a significant response from Contracting Authorities and Contracting Agencies (State Authorities-Public Sector), Public Law Organizations and Local Government Authorities, as well as the private sector, which has been participating since 2017.
