Cyprus University of Technology: Cooperation agreement between CUT and the Municipality of Polemidia for the development of a photovoltaic park

The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) and the Municipality of Polemidia signed a cooperation agreement for the joint development of a photovoltaic park, with a total capacity of around 9 MW, on privately owned land of the Municipality of Polemidia.

The agreement was signed by the Rector of CUT, Professor Panagiotis Zafiris and the Mayor of Polemidia, Mr. Nikos Anastasiou, at a special ceremony held on Monday, 13 May 2024, at the Rector’s office.

The aim of the cooperation is to meet the energy needs of the CUT, the Municipality and the residents of the area, in an environmentally friendly way, using Renewable Energy Sources (RES).

In addition, the CUT will use the photovoltaic park for research purposes in the field of RES. The research will focus on developing new technologies for the production of clean energy, as well as on improving the efficiency of photovoltaic systems.

The agreement is an important step towards the energy autonomy of the CUT and the Municipality of Polemidia and will contribute to the further promotion and development of the use of RES in Cyprus.

The project is currently at the stage of initial design and securing the necessary approvals.
