Commission seeks input on the future European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures

The European Commission has launched a call for evidence to gather input from researchers, policymakers, industry leaders and all other interested stakeholders for the upcoming European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures.

The Strategy will ensure that researchers, innovators and industry in Europe have access to these cutting-edge facilities and services that support scientific and technological excellence and industrial competitiveness. It will enhance the sustainability, accessibility and effectiveness of Europe’s Research and Technology Infrastructures, ensuring that they remain at the forefront of scientific and technological advancements.

The Strategy will tackle challenges faced by these two types infrastructures, as well as issues specific to research infrastructures and technology infrastructures. It will include measures to improve coordination between national and EU-level investments, boost cross-border collaborations as well as collaborations between research and technology infrastructures, maximise the potential of digitalisation and artificial intelligence, and improve access conditions to their users.

By addressing these challenges, the Strategy will strengthen Europe’s competitiveness, prosperity, and strategic autonomy, while accelerating its green and digital transition. It will contribute to other research and innovation initiatives, including the future EU Startups and Scaleups Strategy. Moreover, strengthening research and technology infrastructures is part of the Commission’s priority to safeguard and boost Europe’s prosperity and competitiveness and a priority under the European Research Area.

Designing the Strategy together

The call for evidence will gather the views of stakeholders, including research and innovation experts, providing them with an opportunity to help design the European Strategy on Research and Technology Infrastructures. It will be open in all official EU languages until 22 May 2025.
