This is an important moment for the research management (RM) community in Europe. The European Commission (EC) and countries across Europe want to better understand the current research management landscape to further strengthen the European Research Area (ERA). That’s why the RM Roadmap project needs research managers (RMs) to share their knowledge and expertise as part of an exciting online co-creation process. Join the discussion, share your views and shape the future of your profession.
The RM Roadmap consortium is presenting the research management community with an exciting new online co-creation space. The RM Roadmap Knowledge and Community Platform will bring RMs together as part of a European Union-funded project that seeks to better understand national perspectives on the research management landscape in the EU and across Europe.
RM Roadmap co-creation sessions: Registration and participation
The RM Roadmap project co-creation process will see research managers from 40 nations across Europe discussing the current research management landscapes in their countries.
RMs will join a conversation in an exciting new online space (the Knowledge and Community Platform) about the research management profession, one discussion group per country, led by the national RM Roadmap Ambassador. Find out who your country’s Ambassador is via the list.
Following the discussion, the RM Roadmap Ambassador will create a consensus document for the specific country. Then the national community will vote on the consensus document and this information will go forward to inform the European Commission (EC) and European RM communities.

Knowledge and Community Platform (KCP)
EARMA and its partners are working together to present the Research Management (RM) community with an exciting new online co-creation space. The RM Roadmap Knowledge and Community Platform will bring research managers and administrators (RMAs) together to shape the future of the profession as part of a European Union-funded project that will support the strengthening of an inclusive research management community in Europe.
What is it?
It’s a place where RMAs can share their views, and information on available training, and funding and introduce issues for discussion in a solution-focused endeavour that will seek to build recognition for the profession by understanding the needs of the community. Not just another forum, it is a combination of EARMA’s website and the Crowdhelix platform. This co-creation platform will be all about research management and the issues faced by the professionals who provide excellent research support.
Who is it for?
You are the expert. That’s why we need to hear your views as part of this ambitious consultation process. Research management includes a broad range of professionals supporting researchers to achieve excellence in research and we want to include the full variety of individuals that make up the RM community. The participation of research managers (RMs) from across Europe is pivotal to ensuring that a diverse range of perspectives is captured in the project’s outcomes. Stand up, be counted and share your experience on the RM Roadmap Knowledge and Community Platform.
Why is it happening?
The co-creation process is taking place at a critical time, as the European Commission is paying close attention to the needs of the research management community. With a focus on learning insights from RMs, this exercise will seek to establish a robust framework that will support professional growth and collaboration across the EU and associated countries.
What is RM Roadmap?
The RM Roadmap project will identify and adapt the research management capital base of the EU, including the widening countries, and emerging needs of its current and future research management workforce to improve the EU’s competitiveness, sustain its economic performance and work towards recognition of the profession in Europe.
Who will Lead the Conversation?
RM Roadmap Ambassadors will lead the discussions for each country on the Knowledge and Community Platform, supported by national and regional RM networks. This co-creation exercise will be the biggest collaboration between RM networks ever to take place in Europe which is why we want you to get involved. KCP in Practical Terms
National RM communities will discuss topics on the platform in individual groups. Each country will have its own discussion space. These discussions will be concluded by a consensus document that the community members will then vote on per country. Instruction videos and explainer documents on the rmroadmap.eu project website will guide you through the experience.
The outcomes will be disseminated on the Research Management Helix. The Helix will also contain other relevant RM news and developments (of other projects).
