Applications for ERC Consolidator Grants 2023: Facts and Figures

The ERC Consolidator Grants 2023 call closed for applications on 2 February 2023. These are the preliminary data on the submitted proposals:

  • The ERC received 2,130 proposals. This is a decrease of 4.1% compared to the 2022 call when 2,222 applications were submitted.
  • Physical Sciences and Engineering attracted the highest number of applications (881), followed by Social Science and Humanities (635), and Life Sciences (614).
  • Women submitted 35.7% proposals, which is a slightly lower percentage than in the 2022 call (36.6%).

In its Work Programme 2023, the ERC earmarked €595 million for an estimated 300 Consolidator Grants. The ERC is now starting the evaluation of the proposals. The selected projects will likely be announced in December 2023.

ERC Consolidator Grants are designed to support excellent researchers at the career stage at which they may still be consolidating their own independent research team or programme. Applicants must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition and feasibility of their scientific proposals.
