The University of Cyprus and the company Remedica signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of developing joint actions in research, education and innovation, with an emphasis on areas such as pharmaceutical chemistry and green chemistry (development of sustainable and environmentally friendly chemical processes).
The cooperation includes joint research projects that will enhance the production of new knowledge, educational activities and seminars with the participation of experts from academia and the business sector, as well as internship programmes for Chemistry students. At the same time, Remedica executives will participate in a series of lectures and seminars at the Department of Chemistry, highlighting the opportunities and professional prospects of the sector. As underlined by the Head of the Department of Chemistry, Associate Professor Savvas Georgiades, this cooperation creates significant prospects for the Department, bringing students into direct contact with the contemporary needs and practices of the pharmaceutical industry, and upgrading the overall educational and research activity.
The Rector of the University of Cyprus, Professor Tasos Christofides, noted that cooperation with Remedica substantially strengthens the work of the Department of Chemistry, creating opportunities for cutting-edge research, but also for the professional advancement of graduates in fields of high demand in the labour market. At the same time, this agreement contributes to the connection of the University of Cyprus with the growing Cypriot pharmaceutical industry.
