On 2 August 2025, the AI Act’s governance has to be in place. This includes the EU-level advisory bodies and the national competent authorities.
The Commission has already launched the AI Act’s key advisory bodies. The European AI Board, composed of EU Member States, is fully operational. The Commission has adopted the rules to create the Scientific Panel of independent experts, for which a call for expression of interest is open to all interested applicants. Moreover, interest stakeholders from across civil society, academia and industry can currently apply to join the AI Act Advisory Forum.
National competent authorities are responsible for implementing, supervising and enforcing the rules related to AI systems. They have powers to investigate and enforce compliance, designate notified bodies who carry out pre-market approvals and establish the AI regulatory sandboxes. EU Member States have to designate and empower the competent authorities by 2 August 2025.
The Commission is considering the notifications and will publish a list on a dedicated webpage in due time.
