Haridimos Tsoukas, Professor of Strategic Management at the University of Cyprus, has been elected International Fellow of the British Academy, the UK’s national academy for the social sciences and humanities. His election recognises his contribution to organisational theory, the philosophical foundations of management, organisational knowledge and the study of processes in organisations. His research focuses on how organizations create and utilize knowledge, how their processes evolve, and how philosophy can inform management thinking and practice.
Professor Tsoukas holds the Columbia Ship Management Chair in the Department of Business Administration and Public Administration at the University of Cyprus. He is also a Distinguished Research Professor at the University of Warwick and an Honorary Professor at the University of Sydney and the University of Queensland. He has served as Dean of the School of Economics and Management, the School of Graduate Studies, and Chair of the Department at the University of Cyprus.
He was Editor-in-Chief of the international scientific journal Organisation Studies, and co-edits book series for Oxford University Press and Ikaros Publishing. He is a co-founder and co-organiser of international conferences in the field of organisational studies and management philosophy. His scientific work has been honoured, among others, with the Joanne Martin Trailblazer Award from the American Academy of Management and the European Group of Organisation Studies Award.
Believing that the academic role is not limited to the “ivory tower” of science, Professor Tsoukas actively participates in public dialogue through regular articles in Cyprus and Greece.
The British Academy, founded in 1902, has more than 1,800 members, leading scientists from the United Kingdom and abroad. Current members include classicist Professor Dame Mary Beard and philosopher Professor Baroness Onora O’Neill, while past members include Dame Frances Yates and Sir Winston Churchill. In 2025, a total of 30 new International Members from around the world were elected, including Professor Tsoukas.
Professor Tsoukas is the third member of the University of Cyprus to join the British Academy, after Nobel Prize winner Professor Christoforos Pissarides and the late Professor Vassos Karageorghis.
