Cyprus University of Technology: ‘Gold’ distinction was awarded to the project ‘Game It Away’, in which CUT actively participated

The Gold Award in the category “Innovation in Teaching in Public Higher Education” in this year’s Education Leaders Awards 2025 (Greece), was awarded to the European funded project “Game It Away: entrepreneurship education through board game design.

Game It Away aimed to foster entrepreneurial thinking, creativity and innovation through the design of board games by students. The project’s pedagogical approach fostered active learning, teamwork and practical application of knowledge, allowing participants to develop critical skills linked to the modern business and academic world.

The project was implemented in the framework of European cooperation between five countries: Portugal, Lithuania, Poland, Lithuania, Cyprus and Greece. This international partnership has laid the foundations for the development and evaluation of innovative pedagogical tools in higher education.

The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) actively participated in the consortium through Assistant Professor Yula Melanthiou and Associate Professor Vassiliki Triga. As one of the most active academic institutions in Cyprus, CUT, maintains a strong presence in European research programmes and internationalisation initiatives, contributing dynamically to the production of quality research in the field of education and pedagogical innovation.

The award of the gold prize is a top recognition of the project’s contribution to higher education and confirms the value of European cooperation in fostering educational innovation. The award was received on behalf of the consortium by Professor Tharenos Bratisis from the University of Western Macedonia, which was actively involved in the implementation of the project and hosted key phases of its development.
