On the occasion of World Health Day on 7 April 2025, the Department of Nursing of the Cyprus University of Technology, and in particular the RESPECT research project team together with the NGO Birth Forward offer an interactive experiential workshop on Effective Communication Skills with practical application in breastfeeding counseling. The seminar is being held as part of a continuing education day for health professionals organised by the National Breastfeeding Committee on the theme “Educating, Supporting and Promoting Breastfeeding”.
The Department of Nursing of CUT contributes significantly to the effort for healthy beginnings in life through many activities, both at the educational and research level, as well as through multiple activities of interconnection with society. The educational programmes of the Department of Nursing include the postgraduate programme in Obstetrics and the new programme in Child and Adolescent Nursing (under evaluation). The research activity of the Department covers a wide range of topics concerning the expectant mother and the child, some of which are mentioned below.
- The PrePARE for LIFE project: Preconception Profiling Assessment and Risk factor Evaluation of/for Lifestyle (https://early-lifestyle.com/project/prepare-for-life/) focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles in women of reproductive health
- The RESPECT project “Towards a culture of Respectful Maternity Care (RMC): Enhancing Shared Decision Making and Informed Choice”, co-funded by the European Union, CERV 2021-2027 programme (https://birthforward.com/respect/) focuses on assessing women’s experiences of maternity care and promoting quality standards
- The Mind the Mum project “Placing parental mental health and care to the forefront“, funded by the EU4HEALTH programme (https://birthforward.com/mind-the-mum/) focuses on promoting the mental health of pregnant and new mothers
- The Develop NICU Life project: Designing an intervention for the implementation of Infant and Family-centred Developmental Care in Cyprus NICU’s: A participatory Action Research Study (https://early-lifestyle.com/project/develop-nicu-life/) focuses on strengthening the family-centered model of care in Neonatal Intensive Care Units through participatory planning with health professionals and parents.
- The VLPN – Virtual Children’s Hospital for Learning Pediatric Nursing, funded by the Erasmus + Programme (https://vlpn.eu/) and PedXR – Extended Reality Learning Framework for Pediatric Nursing Students, funded by the Erasmus + Programme funded by the Erasmus + Programme (https://pedxr.com/) projects develop new educational approaches to teaching pediatric nursing using virtual reality and other new technologies
- The Co-Operator Developing a Country-Observatory for sharing best practices for vaccination promotion, funded by the EU4HEALTH programme (https://cooperatorvax.eu/) project focuses on promoting good practices at European level regarding vaccination programs.
Aiming at a healthy start in life, these actions contribute to improving health services, supporting mothers and families, and promoting healthy habits from an early age for a better future and a more hopeful world for future generations.
