The annual meeting of the CONNECTING research project took place on Thursday, 5 December 2024, at the premises of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) in Limassol. CONNECTING aims to create a pioneering knowledge centre for Engineering in Cultural Heritage, utilising interdisciplinary collaborations and modern technologies. The project is funded by the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Cyprus through the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF).
The CONNECTING proposal was among the research proposals that achieved significant funding under the “SMALL SCALE INFRASTRUCTURES/1222” call of the “Research Infrastructures” programme, which was launched by the Foundation and aims to create new or upgrade existing small-scale research infrastructures that will be used for the implementation of high-level, cutting-edge research work.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the academic, government and private sectors, who presented the achievements so far and discussed the challenges and next steps. The project coordinator highlighted the progress made in the first year of project implementation, underlining the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve the objectives.
During the meeting, the results from the different work packages were presented, including project management, equipment acquisition and installation, cloud data centre development and implementation of experimental activities. Important deliverables, such as the documentation of the data centre architecture and the infrastructure sustainability plan, are in progress.
Strategies to ensure the use of equipment and data by external users, as well as rules for the protection of intellectual property were also discussed, and the plan to promote the project results through international conferences, scientific publications, training seminars and collaborations was presented.
The meeting concluded with an update of the timetable and an agreement to strengthen communication and cooperation between the partners. CONNECTING continues to strengthen Cyprus’ position as a centre of innovation for cultural heritage management.
