The Laboratory of Transport Engineering of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Cyprus participates in the new research project GREENMO, as a partner in the consortium of the project. The principal investigator on behalf of the University of Cyprus is the Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Loukas Demetriou.
The GREENMO project aims to promote and integrate green and inclusive mobility hubs for greener living areas in the Mediterranean, building on the real needs of citizens. It is structured around an integrated, participatory approach that integrates top-down and bottom-up perspectives. The ultimate goal of the project is to promote low-carbon mobility in living areas with a focus on mitigating the environmental impacts of urban mobility. This will be achieved by supporting Public Authorities on how to holistically use the important addition to the existing transport infrastructure of mobility hubs programmes to adapt to climate change, while actively engaging citizens and local communities to address the real needs/barriers to transition to more environmentally friendly means of transport.
The GREENMO project is co-funded under the Interreg EuroMED programme with a consortium consisting of the University of West Attica in Greece as Lead Partner, University of Malta, University of Cyprus, A LOT s.r.l. in Italy, Bax & Company Ltd, in Spain and the city of Ljubuski in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The research project will run for the next two years during which a number of activities are planned across the project consortium covering six countries.
