The CIIM Bioeconomia Center of the University of Limassol in collaboration with the organisation “Kourion 2030” implemented a series of interactive workshops, in the context of the candidacy of the Municipality of Kourion for the title of European Capital of Culture 2030, focusing on the promotion of “Cultural Sustainability”.
The workshops were implemented in June and July 2024, online and in person at the “Argo” Cultural Centre in Erimi. The instructor of the workshops was the Head of the CIIM Bioeconomia Centre of the University of Limassol, Mr. Dimitris Tsiropoulos. The topics of the workshops were the following:
- Analysis of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in relation to culture
- European Green Deal and Cultural Sustainability
- Transition to Green Cultural Entrepreneurship
At the end of each thematic module, participants received a certificate of participation.
Each thematic module consisted of 4 meetings. In each meeting, participants had the opportunity to be trained both on a theoretical and practical level in each of the above themes.
At the same time, through the practical exercises, valuable material was created, which will be reinforced and subsequently used by the working groups of the organisation “Kourion 2030” for the planning and implementation of the 10-year cultural strategy of the newly established Municipality of Kourion.
The participants, through their active involvement in the workshops, had the opportunity to understand the links between culture and sustainable development, and to actively contribute through the co-creation method to the formation of a community based on the principles of ecological awareness and social justice.
The need for environmentally friendly cultural policies and programmes is more urgent than ever. Integrating the green transition into culture is not only a moral obligation, but also an opportunity to revitalize the local economy and improve the quality of life for residents. Environmentally friendly cultural initiatives can serve as models of sustainable development, enhancing collective consciousness and promoting social cohesion.
Through the implementation of these strategic objectives, the Municipality of Kourion aspires to become one of the pioneers in green cultural entrepreneurship and leave a positive footprint for future generations.
