The Cyprus Institute: LC3 (Lemesos City Cooling Challenge) – Lemesos Commons Initiative Kicks Off: Engaging Citizens for Sustainable Solutions

On Tuesday, July 17th, the “Lemesos Commons” initiative began, involving 25 officials from the Municipality of Limassol, professionals from the built environment, and the EU project team “Lemesos City Cooling Challenge – LC3.”

Lemesos Commons consists of a group of 25 citizens with a six-month term. The first meeting focused on the city’s green routes, a topic that emerged from the participatory co-creation solution workshops with the Municipality staff, completed by the end of May. The proposals resulting from these workshops are further discussed in the “Lemesos Commons” to design realistic and sustainable solutions to be included in the City’s Climate Contract.

A highlight of this session was the intervention by Mayor Mr. Yiannis Armeftis, who emphasised the importance of constructive dialogue and inclusive citizen participation to sustain the project’s results.

The LC3 workshops are open to the public. You can register your participation or propose an action for implementation within the framework of LC3 via the project website.

The project is being implemented by the Municipality of Limassol, The Cyprus Institute, the Cyprus University of Technology, the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), and Friends of the Earth Cyprus. It is part of the NetZeroCities Pilot Cities programme, which is coordinated by the European Union’s Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission and funded by the Horizon Europe programme (2023 – 2026).
