The Cyprus Institute: Dr. Jonilda Kushta Appointed as National Contact Point for Cyprus in the Forum for Air Quality Modelling (FAIRMODE)

CyI Research Scientist at the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C), Dr. Jonilda Kushta, has been formally appointed as the National Contact Point for Cyprus in the Forum for Air Quality Modelling (FAIRMODE) community. This follows the formal appointment of CyI’s Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) as the Scientific Delegate to represent the Air Quality Section of the Department of Labour Inspection (DLI) in conferences, forums, meetings, and other relevant events pertaining to shared scientific interests on air quality, pollution and emissions modeling.

Dr. Kushta’s appointment will not only enhance the scientific and policy endeavors of CARE-C and the DLI, but also contribute to the broader EU objectives of improving air quality and public health through informed policy actions. This appointment is a testament to her expertise and dedication to advancing the field of air quality research and modeling.

National experts are nominated by their respective Member States to join the FAIRMODE network. Dr. Kushta’s nomination, endorsed by the Department of Labour Inspection of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, has been formally approved, underscoring her significant contributions and standing in the field.

FAIRMODE was established in 2007 as a collaborative initiative between the European Environment Agency (EEA) and the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC). The forum aims to unify air quality modelers and users across the EU, promoting the harmonized use of models for policy-related applications under the European Air Quality Directives. By facilitating collaboration and knowledge exchange, FAIRMODE helps ensure that air quality models are effectively used to inform and guide policy decisions in EU Member States.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Kushta on her appointment and look forward to her valuable contributions in the field of air quality and environmental protection.
