The 2nd RM Roadmap Ambassador Meeting convened on March 13, 2024, at the Nova University Lisbon in Lisbon, Portugal. The meeting served as a platform for distinguished professionals in research management to delve into pivotal discussions and interactive sessions.
Key topics that were addressed during the event included thought-provoking presentations such as “Implementing the ERA Policy Agenda: Research Management Initiative” by Marc Mattis, Policy Officer at DG RTD, European Commission; “Creating Framework Conditions for Research Management to Strengthen the European Research Area – RM Roadmap project” by Nik Claesen, Managing Director of EARMA and RM Roadmap Coordinator; and “Career Acknowledgement for Research Managers Delivering for the European Area – CARDEA Project” by Marilou Ramos Pamplona, a Research Manager hailing from the University of Liege.
Additionally, the participants had the opportunity to delve into the results generated by the RM Roadmap Co-creation and Survey sessions, facilitating insightful discussions and analysis of the current state of research management practices. The event also featured two engaging interactive sessions designed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing among attendees.
Representing Cyprus were five professionals, including Mr. Michalis Yiangou and Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos from the Cyprus Institute, Ms. Styliani Petroudi from CYENS CoE and Crowdhelix (members of the RM Roadmap project consortium), alongside Cyprus’ National Ambassadors, Ms. Elpida Christou from the European Office of Cyprus and Mr. George Kirkos from CYENS CoE.
RM ROADMAP aims to create a consensus on the understanding of the Research Management (RM) profession and propose a working definition and terminology for the profession, both at large and for specific categories. The RM Roadmap survey, which collected inputs between 2 November 2023 and 28 January 2024, included specific questions designed to provide evidence from the RM community in all countries of the European Research Area on the current status, position and needs of research managers.
As the initiative progresses, the 2nd Co-creation Session stands as a crucial platform to validate and enhance the survey findings in collaboration with national and thematic RM communities, incorporating contextual nuances to tailor the outcomes to specific regional contexts. This session will focus on defining research managers and identifying their core competencies and essential skills relevant to different RM fields and job categories.
By leveraging data gleaned from the RM Roadmap survey and ERA Action 17, the co-creation session endeavours to streamline the terminology used within research management and outline the critical competencies crucial for success in various professional roles.
