The Municipality of Nicosia has been selected by the European Committee of the Regions as one of the new hubs of the European RegHub (Regional Hubs) Network, strengthening Cyprus’s participation in the European dialogue and the evaluation of EU policies at local and regional level.
On 26 September 2025, the Municipality of Nicosia took part in the first official meeting of the new RegHub members, held in Brussels with the participation of partners from across Europe. Among them were the regions of Bavaria, Catalonia, Madrid, Emilia-Romagna and Umbria, as well as cities such as Barcelona, Ljubljana, Murcia, Dubrovnik and Gothenburg.
The participation of the Municipality of Nicosia in the RegHub network further reinforces the city’s role as an active partner in the European dialogue, highlighting its commitment to good governance, citizen participation and innovative policy practices. It also opens up new opportunities for cooperation, knowledge exchange and access to European funding.
At the same time, this initiative represents an important opportunity for the city, as it enables the Municipality to directly convey to European institutions the experiences and challenges arising from the implementation of EU legislation at local level, thereby strengthening Nicosia’s voice within the European Union.
The RegHub network was established to bring a local and regional dimension to the process of improving European legislation. Through the exchange of experiences and good practices, local and regional authorities actively contribute to the more effective implementation of EU policies, based on the real conditions and needs of their communities.
From Cyprus, the Municipalities of Kourion and Idalion also participate in the network, further enhancing the overall presence of Cypriot local authorities in European affairs and underscoring the country’s contribution to improving EU legislation.
