The Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics (CING), with great honour and pride, announces that Dr Kyriaki Michaelidou, Head of the Biostatistics Unit at CING, has been awarded the UNESCO-Al Fozan International Prize for the Promotion of Young Scientists in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The award ceremony took place on Friday, 19 September 2025, at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, where Dr Michaelidou was one of only five scientists worldwide to be distinguished, representing with excellence the Europe and North America region among a host of eminent scientists.
This important international distinction is conferred on young scientists from around the globe who contribute through their work to the advancement of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The prize was awarded to Dr Michaelidou for her outstanding and internationally recognised research contribution to breast cancer genetics, as well as for the development and application of biostatistical methods that make a substantial contribution to the advancement of scientific knowledge and medical research.
This award represents a brilliant personal achievement for Dr Michaelidou, as well as an important recognition of the work carried out at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, which continues with consistency to promote research, education and innovation at an international level.
