DESCRIPTION:Strategic Energy Technology Plan Conference : Scaling up Research\, Innovation and Competitiveness in Clean Energy Technologies  \nThe 18th SET Plan Conference is a high-level conference organised under the patronage of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU in cooperation with the Commission. \nThe event will provide a platform for policymakers\, researchers and industry stakeholders in energy sector to establish connections and expand collaborations aimed at developing and demonstrating innovative cleantech energy solutions\, while accelerating their deployment. \nThis year’s theme\, Scaling up Research\, Innovation and Competitiveness in Clean Energy Technologies\, highlights the need to reinforce the research and innovation landscape\, to enhance competitiveness and sovereignty of clean energy technology value chains within the EU. \nThe agenda includes several thematic parallel sessions and high-level panels in the following areas: the commercialisation of innovative technologies\, industrial decarbonisations\, geothermal energy\, energy storage\, hydrogen and skills. We are expecting high-level speakers from the Commission and the Hungarian Ministry of Energy to open the conference. The main goals of the conference are: \n\nenhancing cooperation and synergies between national and European policies\nfacilitating collaboration within energy R&I\ngathering the most promising results of energy R&I\n\nOn the afternoon of 13 November\, a day before the SET Plan conference\, 2 side events will take place \n\nA workshop with the Secretariats of Implementation Working Groups (IWGs) and European Technology and Innovation Platforms (ETIPs) funded under Horizon Europe (by invitation only). The workshop aims to facilitate awareness and understanding of each other’s activities among all ETIPs and IWGs in the area covered by 5 task forces mentioned in the Communication on the revised SET Plan. DESCRIPTION:A 30 January conference is kicking off the new scoreboard\, which uses data visualisation to provide comprehensive insights into higher education systems across Europe. \n\n\n\n\nA new era of monitoring higher education systems\nThe European Higher Education Sector Scoreboard (EHESS) is looking to be a key resource within the European Higher Education Sector Observatory (EHESO). \nIt enables policy experts\, researchers and national authorities to explore and compare higher education systems across the EU and beyond. It can become a cornerstone for monitoring policy developments within the European Education Area. \nJoin the kick off\nEHESO is holding a kick-off event for the new scoreboard. The hybrid (in person / online) event will be held 30 January in Brussels. The event will provide prospective applicants with an opportunity to learn more about the funding options under the new work programme (budget: €1.2 billion)\, which focuses on the twin green and digital transitions required to achieve climate neutrality in Europe by 2050. \nThe Info Day will take place on 6 May 2025 (9:00 – 16:00)\, both onsite in the Charlemagne building (Brussels) and online. Participants will gain insights into the European Commission’s approach to impact assessment\, particularly in the context of Horizon Europe. \nThe session will feature a hands-on\, practical component\, during which participants will analyze a real Horizon Europe call for proposals to understand how impact is embedded and evaluated in the call text. The training will also provide detailed guidance on how to prepare a collaborative project proposal\, with a specific focus on the structure and content of the Horizon Europe proposal template—including Excellence\, Impact\, and Implementation sections. \nAbout the trainer: Valentina Romano has 20 years’ experience as a research manager at the Politecnico di Torino\, Italy. She is currently head of Collaborative and Multidisciplinary Research Division and she leads a team of experts in pre-award activities. From 2018 to 2022 she has been a member of the Professional Development and Recognition Committee and of the Awards Committee at the European Association of Research Manager. Since January 2020 she has been leading a network of Italian research managers (www.italianresearchmanagers.eu). She has experience as a trainer on research management in several courses at national and international level. CoARA advocates for a shift away from journal-based metrics like the Impact Factor and h-index\, promoting instead qualitative\, peer-reviewed assessments that recognise diverse research contributions and career paths. The principles and commitments of the coalition were formalised in the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment\, published in July 2022. \nThe keynote speaker for the webinar will be Prof. Eva Méndez\, Associate Professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and a member of the CoARA Steering Board. Prof. Méndez will delve into the current uptake of Open Peer Review practices across Europe\, highlighting how research institutions are implementing CoARA Action Plans.
