SUMMARY:Cyprus' Path to Climate Neutrality: Benefits and Challenges
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, 28 February 2024 | 18:00\nJohn Ioannides Auditorium\, Fresnel Building\, Cyprus Institute \nSpeaker \nTheodoros Zachariadis\, Professor at the Cyprus Institute\, Vice-Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the European Environment Agency \nContributors \nCharalambos Theopeptou\, Member of Parliament\, Nicosia\, Ecological Movement – Citizens’ Co-operation – Intervention: From the Paris Agreement to Fit for 55 \nAnthi Charalambous\, Low Emission Economy Consultant (ideopsis Ltd) – Intervention: business and financing opportunities for green transition \nModerator \nAndreas Charalambous\, Economist\, former Director at the Ministry of Finance \n  \nTo achieve a climate-neutral Cyprus in 2050\, with a decarbonisation of fossil fuels and proper waste recovery and management\, a comprehensive policy framework will be required\, including the crucial issue of pricing\, serious investments by the public sector and incentives for investments by the private sector\, as well as partnerships between the two. \nThese policies can benefit the economy and society\, but they come with economic challenges\, mainly of a transitional nature\, which need to be addressed in a timely manner. At what transitional costs is the path to climate neutrality feasible? What social measures should be taken for the affected vulnerable groups? Where should economic policy be oriented in the coming years? Are opportunities emerging that could be exploited so that the transition is accompanied by beneficial and high value-added investments? \n\nAbout the Cyprus Economic Society: \nFounded in 1962 as a not-for-profit organisation with the general aim of promoting the study of economics in Cyprus\, the Cyprus Economic Society has endured and adapted itself to the changing conditions in Cyprus and abroad. It is an independent\, transparent\, and open society. Its mission is ‘to inform public debate and to facilitate discussion of public policy issues and EU affairs’. \nWe seek to achieve this mission by encouraging and disseminating research; organising various conferences\, lectures\, and discussion events; publishing articles\, papers\, and proceedings; and\, engaging with other similar societies and professional bodies in the EU\, and elsewhere.\nFor more information\, please visit our website https://cypruseconomicsociety.org \n\nThis event is held in Greek\nYou can attend this event in-person. To attend in person\, join us at the John Ioannides Auditorium\, Fresnel Building at The Cyprus Institute Athalassa Campus\nImages and/or recordings of our open public events may be used by The Cyprus Institute for dissemination purposes including print and digital media such as websites\, press-releases\, social media\, and live streaming.

(Separate bespoke closed events for RM ROADMAP Ambassadors and Associate Ambassadors have been arranged to take place on the 18 and 21 of September 2023 and have been communicated separately.) \nThe Knowledge and Community Platform (KCP) constitutes a transformative platform that provides an arena for RMs to initiate\, contribute to\, and authenticate discussions on a variety of topics\, including career pathways. The core design of KCP is dynamic\, allowing it to cross beyond national and thematic limits\, providing participants with the opportunity to co-create consensus documents and engage in important discussions. \nDriving these discussions will be our distinguished RM Roadmap ambassadors in close collaboration with the project consortium. Consensus documents will be discussed on the KCP online platform; these documents are intended to reflect the majority perspective and will be open for participant voting. \nWe want to emphasise that this event is accessible to all interested parties. The primary aim is to offer a comprehensive introduction to interacting with the RM Roadmap Knowledge and Community Platform before the first session starts in October 2023. We invite every RM to engage and propel this co-creation process forward. Your presence and participation will undoubtedly be crucial to the success of this effort. \nThe speakers are Nik Claesen\, the RM Roadmap Coordinator and Managing Director of the EARMA and Borana Taraj\, the Head of European projects at EARMA who is co-cordinating the RM Roadmap project with Nik. \nFor further information and queries: Don’t hesitate to contact events@earma.org \nRead more: https://www.rmroadmap.eu/

SUMMARY:7th International Conference on Internet Science (INSCI 2023)\, Limassol\, Cyprus
DESCRIPTION:INSCI is a multidisciplinary conference that brings together scholars and practitioners at the intersection of technological\, social and economic sciences seeking to learn how the Internet can be used to make our world a better place. Its insights are expected to create a better understanding of this complex socio-technical system we call “Internet”\, for instance to inform political decisions on the technological priorities for public funding and to drive a more sustainable and equitable development of the innovation and social ecosystems it supports. \nINSCI welcomes fundamental and applied multidisciplinary research\, including policy-oriented studies and works offering technological solutions\, that investigate the role of Internet for sustainable development\, social and economic resilience\, collective intelligence\, reliable information processing and protection\, and\, more generally\, for a holistic understanding of societal transformations\, governance shifts and innovation quests. \nINSCI welcomes works done in interdisciplinary teams that may include computer scientists\, sociologists\, policy makers\, economists\, designers and artists\, or complex system scholars\, among others\, preferably uniting expertise from social\, economic and technical sciences. This kind of work is expected to close the gap between societal / economic impact and requirements and technological developments\, seen as both drivers and consequences of each other. \nMore information: https://bit.ly/3VV0g3N
