Participants will gain insights into the European Commission’s approach to impact assessment\, particularly in the context of Horizon Europe. \nThe session will feature a hands-on\, practical component\, during which participants will analyze a real Horizon Europe call for proposals to understand how impact is embedded and evaluated in the call text. The training will also provide detailed guidance on how to prepare a collaborative project proposal\, with a specific focus on the structure and content of the Horizon Europe proposal template—including Excellence\, Impact\, and Implementation sections. \nAbout the trainer: Valentina Romano has 20 years’ experience as a research manager at the Politecnico di Torino\, Italy. She is currently head of Collaborative and Multidisciplinary Research Division and she leads a team of experts in pre-award activities. From 2018 to 2022 she has been a member of the Professional Development and Recognition Committee and of the Awards Committee at the European Association of Research Manager. Since January 2020 she has been leading a network of Italian research managers (www.italianresearchmanagers.eu). She has experience as a trainer on research management in several courses at national and international level. DESCRIPTION:We would like to inform you that the European Commission is organising\, online\, an information event on the New European Bauhaus (NEB) Facility Work Programme 2025 and a networking event. \nThe NEB Facility is the first multiannual funding instrument for innovative projects for the period 2025-2027\, which aim to create sustainable\, inclusive and aesthetically high-quality living spaces in Europe. For 2025\, the NEB Facility call for proposals\, which will open on 15 May 2025\, has a budget of €118.4 million from Horizon Europe. Half of the amount – around €63 million – will fund projects that will demonstrate the practical application of NEB at local level\, while the remaining amount will fund basic research projects and other supporting actions. The webinar will be held via Microsoft Teams and can be joined through the following link: \n🔗 Join the webinar. \nThe Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA) is a European initiative bringing together over 700 organisations – including universities\, research funders\, and professional associations – committed to reforming how research and researchers are evaluated. CoARA advocates for a shift away from journal-based metrics like the Impact Factor and h-index\, promoting instead qualitative\, peer-reviewed assessments that recognise diverse research contributions and career paths. The principles and commitments of the coalition were formalised in the Agreement on Reforming Research Assessment\, published in July 2022. \nThe keynote speaker for the webinar will be Prof. Eva Méndez\, Associate Professor at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and a member of the CoARA Steering Board. Prof. Méndez will delve into the current uptake of Open Peer Review practices across Europe\, highlighting how research institutions are implementing CoARA Action Plans. SUMMARY:World Heart Day: Webinar on EU Cardiovascular Health Plan
DESCRIPTION:29 September 2025: 14:00 – 16:00 CET (Brussels time) \nCardiovascular diseases\, which affect the heart and blood vessels\, are the leading cause of death in the EU\, claiming 1.7 million lives each year. They also contribute significantly to disability\, early retirement\, and absenteeism\, which lowers the quality of life\, reduces life expectancy and decreases productivity. These diseases cost the EU around €280 billion annually due to increased healthcare costs and decreased economic output. \nTo tackle this\, the European Commission is developing an EU Cardiovascular Health Plan. This plan will emphasise on prevention\, early detection and screening\, care\, management and rehabilitation. A special focus will be on developing health checks for cardiovascular diseases to identify people at risk. The plan will use the opportunities offered by new technologies\, digital and personalised tools. DESCRIPTION:Event Details:\nDate:              Thursday\, 9 October 2025 \nTime:             10:15 – 12:30 (EET) \nVenue:           This is an online event.  You are welcome to join us on Zoom (passcode: 297387) \nParticipants: See below \n\nColour is precious\, and for millennia\, the desire for colour has driven human ingenuity. Many of the early colour terms in the Egyptian language are related to valuable colourful materials. As early as in the 4th millennium BCE\, Egypt witnessed the invention of the first synthetic colours—Egyptian blue and faience—created to satisfy a longing for vibrant\, lustrous and enduring hues. But the truly remarkable ‘colour turn’ in this region took place some two thousand years later\, in New Kingdom Egypt (NK: c. 1550–1070 BCE)\, when there is an explosion of new types of polychromatic substances and effects\, creating a world abounding in vivid hues\, patterns and combinations of the exotic and precious. Glass\, polychrome faience\, and Egyptian blue are combined into completely new colourful objects of an often very complex nature\, combining various materials and techniques.\n\n  \nThis round table will discuss the interconnections between colour\, culture and crafts in this period. The round table will discuss the relationships between various aspects of colour in this period and interconnections of these aspects. This includes the scientific study of what these colourful materials are made of\, how they are produced\, where and by whom. We also ask what coloured substances can tell us about past cognition\, behaviour and culture. What knowledge was necessary to produce them and how is this practical knowledge reflected upon in contemporary texts? How did the advent of new materials shape the way people spoke and wrote about colour? How does technology influence these objects and how do the objects in turn influence the perception and experience of colour? \nThese questions will be discussed to highlight the exceptional character of this phase of the Egyptian culture and to demonstrate the potential of an interdisciplinary\, multi-perspective approach to the study of colour and colourful materials of this period. DESCRIPTION:Frederick University is co-organising an International Conference titled “Exploring Green Futures in Education and Design”\, in the framework of the “Futures Designed” research project\, coordinated by Frederick University in collaboration with the KMOP Policy Center in Belgium\, Consorzio Materahub Industrie Culturali E Creative Scarl (Mathub) in Italy\, Artit Athens in Greece and Kauno Kolegija in Lithuania. \nThe Conference will be held in Brussels\, Belgium\, on Tuesday\, 15 October 2025\, with hybrid participation available. This international event will bring together educators\, researchers\, designers\, and community stakeholders to explore how the New European Bauhaus values can be embedded in education and design\, fostering sustainability\, creativity\, and innovation. Her talk bridges art\, science\, and ecology through hands-on experimentation and ethical innovation. \nDr. Anna Merry Economou\, Assistant Professor in Frederick University’s Department of Arts and Communication and Coordinator of the Futures Designed project\, will present the project’s vision for sustainable\, creative\, and inclusive education in Europe. \nShe will also discuss the online micro-credential courses developed within the project. DESCRIPTION:3–4 November 2025\, University of Cyprus \nThe research project DISACT\, funded by the European Research Council (ERC\, Grant Agreement No. 101086935) and based at the Department of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Cyprus\, is organising an Interdisciplinary Conference on Enforced Disappearances\, to be held on 3–4 November 2025. \nThe conference is an international\, interdisciplinary\, and cultural event dedicated to exploring the historical roots and the legal\, political\, and forensic dimensions of the issue of missing persons. \nEnforced disappearances refer to the deliberate abduction of individuals by state or non-state armed actors during periods of political violence—such as authoritarian regimes\, civil wars\, or armed conflicts. This crime functions as an instrument of political control and intimidation\, not only during the conflict itself but also through the silence that follows. Perpetrators often conceal traces and remains\, leaving families in prolonged anguish and uncertainty. \nThis experience is deeply familiar to Cyprus\, where the trauma of the missing remains etched in the collective memory. At the same time\, the phenomenon continues to evolve globally\, as authoritarian regimes cooperate and carry out disappearances even beyond their national borders. \nThe DISACT project investigates the historical origins and underlying logic of enforced disappearances: when and by whom the practice was “invented\,” how it spread internationally\, and why specific victims are targeted. SUMMARY:StoryPharm Training in Intersectionality\, Sexuality\, and Gender
DESCRIPTION:25–27 November 2025 \nStoryPharm announces its next training course\, Intersectionality\, Sexuality\, and Gender\, to be held at the University of Cyprus\, Centre for Medieval Arts & Rituals (CeMAR). The event will take place at the Learning Resource Centre – UCY Library “Stelios Ioannou\,” Room LRC012. \nThis three-day training introduces StoryPharm Doctoral Fellows to key concepts and methodologies in gender\, sexuality\, and intersectionality studies. Organised in collaboration with the Interdepartmental Graduate Programme in Gender Studies and the UNESCO Chair in Gender Equality\, the course explores how these critical perspectives can be applied to the study of ancient and medieval sources and cultures. \nThrough lectures\, reading sessions\, and discussions led by experts from the University of Cyprus and partner institutions\, participants will examine feminist and queer theory\, care-focused feminism\, metaphors of illness in early modernity\, and the gendered construction of academic excellence.
