SUMMARY:2nd Cyprus Forum Cities
DESCRIPTION:Auditorium 1 and 2\, Tassos Papadopoulos Building\, TEPAK \n18-19 April 2024 \nOxygen for Democracy and the Limassol Municipality are co-organizing the 2nd Cyprus Forum Cities in collaboration with the Cyprus University of Technology on 18-19 April 2024\, in Limassol. \nBringing together political leaders from Cyprus and abroad\, prominent personalities from the public and private sector\, the media\, the business sector\, the academic community and civil society\, the participants of the 2nd Cyprus Forum Cities will discuss\, exchange ideas and identify new and creative solutions to key issues facing local government. \nThrough high-level discussions\, the 2nd Cyprus Forum Cities promises to provide an opportunity to formulate a long-term plan for the development of Cyprus’ cities and rural areas. Some of the key topics on this year’s agenda include Climate Change\, European Elections\, Digital Transformation\, Local Government Reform and Waste Management\, among others. \nThe aim of the Cyprus Forum Cities is to empower municipalities and communities to develop new dynamics and technologies that will strengthen cities\, as well as civil society\, and actively contribute to strengthening the relations between them. \nTo take part in the 2nd Cyprus Forum Cities\, you need to register by following the link below: Registration for the 2nd Cyprus Forum Cities

SUMMARY:EuroCC2 Training Event: Accelerating Generative AI with PyTorch
DESCRIPTION:Date:          Friday\, 19 April 2024 \nTime:         10:00 – 13:00 \nVenue:      John Ioannides Auditorium\, Fresnel Building\, Athalassa Campus\, The Cyprus Institute\n                  This is not a hybrid event – in-person attendance is required \nTrainers:   Mr. Christodoulos Stylianou\, Research Engineer; Dr Charalambos Chrysostomou\, Associate Research Scientist (both of CaSToRC\, The Cyprus Institute) \nRegistration\nRegistration for this event is open until Wednesday\, 17 April 2024\, 12 pm\n  \nPresentation 1     |     10:00 – 11:00 \nOptimizing Llama: Enhancing Efficiency and Scalability of Large Language Models with PyTorch\nPresenter: Christodoulos Stylianou\, Research Engineer\, The Cyprus Institute\n\nOverview: The tutorial aims to provide optimization techniques for Llama\, a foundational Large Language Model (LLM) based on the Transformer Architecture\, analogous to the GPT series. Noted for their human-like text generation capabilities\, these models encounter challenges regarding efficiency and scalability due to their complexity and computational demands. The session intends to augment the operational efficiency of these models through PyTorch-native optimization strategies\, including model compilation\, GPU quantization\, speculative decoding\, and tensor parallelism. Participants will have the chance to evaluate the proposed optimizations in real-time on one of Europe’s largest supercomputers. These methods seek to significantly reduce inference times and optimize resource usage\, thus expanding the advanced models’ applicability across various computational frameworks and research initiatives.\n\nPrerequisites: As an intermediate-level tutorial\, we expect basic knowledge of Deep Learning\, and programming in Python. Additionally\, some experience in using HPC systems is helpful (Linux shell\, Slurm) but not mandatory. Participants are expected to provide a laptop with which they can access the HPC system. Access will be facilitated via individual accounts using the Jupyter platform.\n\nPresentation 2     |     11:15 – 12:15 \nEfficient Scaling of Machine Learning Models: Distributed Training\n\nPresenter: Charalambos Chrysostomou\, Associate Research Scientist\, The Cyprus Institute\n\nOverview:  This tutorial aims to provide a concise yet comprehensive overview of scaling machine learning models in PyTorch. It covers the essentials of distributed training\, focusing on practical examples to demonstrate the scalability and efficiency of PyTorch. The session is structured to transition smoothly from basic to intermediate topics.\n\nPrerequisites: Python Skills: Basic to intermediate Python\, including familiarity with its standard library; Machine Learning Basics: Understanding of core ML concepts and algorithms; PyTorch Fundamentals: Experience with model definition\, data loading\, and training in PyTorch; Deep Learning Knowledge: Familiarity with neural networks\, including different layers and activation functions; Parallel Computing: Basic knowledge of parallel computing\, multiprocessing\, and GPUs; Hardware: Access to a machine with a CUDA-enabled GPU.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime  \nDescription  \nSpeaker\n\n\n10:00 – 11:00\nOptimizing Llama: Enhancing Efficiency and Scalability of Large Language Models with PyTorch\nMr Christodoulos Stylianou\n\n\n11:00 – 11:15\nCoffee break\n\n\n11:15 – 12:15\nEfficient Scaling of Machine Learning Models: Distributed Training\nDr Charalambos Chrysostomou\n\n\n12:15 – 13:00\nCoffee break
